ABOUT US

The Academy is dedicated to promoting global citizenship by focusing on languages, culture, and current events. This year, the academy has taken an active role to enhance understanding of issues around the world through the Global Issues Summit. The purpose of this initiative will be to spread awareness about a range of global concerns to students to be informed about world crises and measures being taken to alleviate these issues.

The Global Issues Summit will be a conference held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 in the Clements High School Auditorium from 9 AM to 1:30 PM. The Summit will present information through first-hand accounts, organizational speakers, audiovisual documentaries and performances. With this experience,  many of the students in our academy and other community members will be able to see the world from a more global perspective.

Through first-hand accounts, audiovisual documentaries, performances and organizational speakers from UNICEF, Free the Captives, Tahirih Justice Center and many more,  the Summit will discuss issues of discrimination, torture, resettlement, human trafficking among other human rights concerns.
